Did you know that, apart from being servants, children and heirs; called and chosen that we’re also God’s soldiers?

We’re going to show how to have a victorious living in Jesus, making use of God’s armour. Because the biggest purpose of God’s armour is for you to defend and to overcome the enemy daily (Eph. 6:11)

When we read Ephesians 6:12, that the battle of a christian isn’t against people of this world but against Satan, who governs the system of this world. In this constant battle, we will only overcome when in spirit and applying Christ’s blood (Rev. 22:14-15).

There is no way to fight against principalities (spirits) and rulers of the darkness of this age in our own flesh. Hence, God’s armour was given to us and we are ordered to equip ourselves with it (Eph. 6:11).

God’s armour has six parts which have valuable spiritual meanings. Each of the components are described in Ephesians 6:14-18.

The #6 defences of God’s armour

A Roman soldier and the pieces of armour.

#1: To gird yourself with the truth – Ephesians 6:14a tells us: “Stand therefore, having girded your waist with the truth”.

armadura de Deus

The truth is the first defence in God’s armour. The truth is God’s word. The number of belts varied between 1 and 3. This amount has as an objective to protect and also to be as a holding for the sword (that also represents God’s word).

The armoured belt ensured the defence of the waist and it defended from low blows. The biggest low blow of the enemy are his lies. Deceit and truth are opposites; God is the truth and the enemy is the lie.

The meaning of the verb “to gird” is “to cover”. However, there is a deeper meaning: to include in our inner being. To gird ourselves means more than to just cover ourselves with the truth, which means to stop lying.

The word, as a tight belt well adjusted to the soldier’s body, represents that we must have an intimate relationship with Bible scriptures. This means to have God’s word close to us, in our mouth and in our hearts (Deut. 30:14).

Young one, do you realize the importance of the word in your living? Be in touch with the word, fill yourself with spirit and life (John 6:63). Take heed to the scripture reading. It’s worth it!

#2: To put the breastplate of RIGHTEOUSNESS – On Ephesians 6:14b: “and having put the breastplate of righteousness”.

armadura de Deus

Young one, one of the most attacked organs is our heart. That’s why we need to keep our heart, “for out of it spring the issues of life” (Prov. 4:23).

The heart is composed of mind, will, emotion and consciousness and it’s part of every christian experience that each of those aspects love God (Mark 12:30). When we believe in Him, when we are baptized and live our christian life we show God our love and experience His love more deeply. It’s impossible to live a spiritual experience without love.

That’s why our heart is a valuable organ – and why we need a sturdy breastplate. If it gets hit or consumed by the enemy, than the original function of the heart is ruined. Not loving God can create marks and infection to our spiritual lives.

Therefore, gird yourself with the breastplate of righteousness! Be fair to yourself, apply God’s word in your daily living in order to create defences that keep your heart against the wiles of the devil.

#3: Shod your feet with the gospel of PEACE – Ephesians 6:15: “having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace”.

Our feet are very important to Christ, because they are the tool to step on the enemy’s territory in order to bring people back to God. But how are we going to do this if our feet are not shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace?

Just like soldiers’ feet must be shod to protect themselves from dangerous obstacles and minefields, our feet must also be protected by the gospel. Therefore, wherever we will present God’s gospel wherever we go and will save lives!

To have our feet shod with the preparation means to be willing to announce the gospel everywhere, even on the enemy’s territory. Young one, are you prepared? Are you dressed to preach the gospel everywhere God takes you?

#4: To take the shield of FAITH – Verse 16 says: “above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.”

The shield is faith.
The shield is an extremely important weapon regarding the protection against the enemy. The shield mentioned in this passage is like the one in the image. It was a big shield that protected most of the body.

The shield covers up all breaches that the evil one uses to put doubts in us concerning God’s word.

Once a doubt is put in our heart, it causes the enemy to find many ways to discourage us and, eventually, defeat us. However, if our support is the shield of faith through prayer, we will then close all openings for the enemy and quench the fiery darts of the wicked one.

#5: To take the helmet of SALVATION  – Ephesians 6:17a: “And take the helmet of salvation”.

The helmet is salvation.
The head houses the brain which coordinates the rest of our body. If that gets attacked, all is lost. The weakness is shown especially inside our mind and it leads us to question God and everything that He teaches us.

Young one, take the helmet! The helmet will keep your mind from being struck by another gospel, a gospel that doesn’t come from Christ. We are kept with the helmet from every wind of doctrine that Satan uses to twist us.

#6: To take the sword of the SPIRIT – The sixth and last part of the armour is in verse 17b: “and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

To take the sword of the SPIRIT!

As the verse says, we need to take God’s word that is our sword. The sword is a weapon against the enemy of God. There is no bigger weapon! Through the sword, we overcome all temptations that the evil one presents to us. God’s word is what feeds us, strengthen us and encourages us to proceed. Feed from it every day!

We need to pray constantly in Spirit, watch with all perseverance and pray for the saints in order for the 6 parts of the armour to work properly (Ephesians 6:18).

Prayer is the key for you to open the war chest in which the armour of God is kept in. Prayer is also the oil that you need for the good functioning of your equipment.

When you pray, the war chest will be opened and the armour God prepared can be used. Unceasingly pray! Keep fellowship with God! He will reveal each strike and every action you must take against the enemy and OVERCOME! Make use of the armour every day!
