This text presents one more book from the Old Testament’s Minor Prophets: Habakkuk. The prophet, who has a peculiar name, Nahum and Zephaniah (both from the Minors Prophets’ group) were contemporaries. Habakkuk lived in the land of Judah, about 600 years before Christ, and an evident characteristic is seen throughout his book: he really was a questioner. A questioning starts his book:
On April 28, 1988, flight 243 of Aloha Airlines from Hilo to Honolulu would become one of the most famous accidents in the history of aviation. At approximately 7300 meters of altitude, the flight was proceeding as normal when, suddenly, part of the plane’s structure in the first class section was wrenched off, leaving a hole nearly 6 meters long on its fuselage (pictured) and dozens of passengers exposed to the open air. Despite these conditions the pilot managed to land the aircraft at a nearby airport with only one victim, a flight attendant who was launched out of the plane.
Best friends always have a good story to tell, don’t they? Generally, the closer the friendship, the more detailed their story is. In the same way, all genuine Christians have a story with God and know exactly the special moment when God became real to them. What about you, do you remember your story with God? Through this series, you are going to be given an opportunity to have a new story with the Lord!
“Indeed we count them blessed who endure…” (James 5:11a)
Hannah certainly was someone that endured and as any other human being (although she had strong spirit) had her days of sorrow and of a dismayed heart. After crying a lot and even not being able to eat because of her condition of sterility and the provocations of her rival, something inside her became stronger and greater than the difficult pressure of not having a child. Hannah prayed: “O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life…” (1 Samuel 1:11a). “My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my expectation is from Him”. (Psalm chapter 62, verse 5. NKJV).
Seeing God acting is one of the most wonderful things a Christian can witness. For some, it happens in rare moments, epiphanies, or just once in a lifetime. For a few others, it is a daily observation and sometimes contemplative of how God is manifested, and we don’t realise every day to answer our pray. Continue reading “Seeing God Acting”
Maybe you are in a moment of your life that even by accident a thought comes to your mind:
“Oh, God can even be good, but just for others. I have plans, desires and dreams, but things are not happening the way that I want and had planned! And if God didn’t take me away from this situation until now, He must have given up. I am abandoned, God doesn’t take care of me.” Continue reading “Is He still being good?”
They just don’t come to your mouth. The feeling is there, it’s alive, real and it deeply touches your heart, but you can’t find words to express it. Have you ever been in similar situations while praying? Knowing how to deal with these kind of experiences will certainly spare us from even more distress and anxiety. So let’s find out why the Lord allows this kind of situation to happen and what we are supposed to do. Continue reading “Lord, I’ve run out of words”
Have you ever gone through an experience of prayer and felt that it didnt’t bring results? Have you ever felt abandoned by God?
Even with so many years in church, baptized, or serving, to feel the absence of God is something that many Christians have experienced before. But why does it happen? Because nothing good dwells in us (Romans 7:18; Isaiah 59:2). The human being has a tendency to always blame others. It’s rare for us to recognise that we made a mistake. We lose God’s presence because whenever we make a mistake we always think that God doesn’t love us anymore. Our nature is proud. May the Lord have mercy on us and make us humble servants.
Don’t let yourself live without God’s presence. Seek Him whatever it takes!
